Pic shows: The man, naked, the other man who stole dogs Thieves who tried to steal two dogs were attacked and tortured by angry villagers. The men were beaten and the animals they were trying to dognap were tied around their necks in a barbaric punishment lasting nine hours. Police had to call for reinforcements before the furious villagers – who were demanding 100,000 GBP compensation from the men - would let them go. The incident happened at Shaping Village in the township of Huangsha in YiZhang County in Central China’s Hunan province. The mob were warned they could face charges themselves unless they agreed to let the men go who needed medical treatment for injuries after their illegal detention. Local Wei P’an said:"These strangers came into the village to steal from us. They needed to be taught a lesson. They were pretty scared when the dogs were tied around their necks. It was justice in our eyes. I doubt if they will try and come back and steal from us again." When extra police eventually moved in to free the men, some villages tried to block the police cars with large rocks and prevent them driving away. Others protested by laying down in front of the cars as the men were escorted back to the police station. No arrests were made. The men were held for questioning and received medical treatment for their injuries. (ends)
